Hilltribe Handicrafts PDF Print E-mail

Thailand has number of tribal groups, mainly in the north, which are usually called hilltribes as they tend to live at the higher altitudes. In the past they practised slash and burn nomadic farming and were reknown for opium cultivation. Now they are living in more settled communities and their indigenous crafts are much sought after as home decor items.

Hilltribe Embroidery

The various tribes including the Akha, Hmong and Karen have traditional crafts in silver working, beadwork and embroidery. Please have a look at our Northern Thai handicrafts by clicking here.
