The weaving of reeds and other natural products is a long established Thai craft. In Thailand it is most often seen in homes as reed mats and sleeping rolls. When a guest arrives at a Thai village house a reed mat is unrolled and put on a low wooden platform for them sit on. A reed mat is also a commonly used bed just laid on the wooden floor. The process of reed weaving starts with the collecting and drying of the raw reeds. This is followed by dyeing with natural dyes and the weaving on large wood frame looms.
